“I fought two wars during the emergency. The rebels had come to my house and I was taken. I saw my friends die in front of my eyes. It was very difficult. At night, I would close my eyes and pray that tomorrow never came. I never understood why we had to kill each other in the name of rights. How are we protecting our rights by killing each other? But I had no choice. I could not run away. I met my husband there. When the war ended, I returned to my husbands home. He is from a different ethnicity and for me everything was new. Even what I am wearing is a tradition dress of my husband ethnicity. I am happy that the war has ended. But sometimes at night they come back as bad dreams and in the morning I don’t feel so well. I have children so I cannot not feel well.” - (Dambar Kumari Pradhan, Hatiya 4, Sankhuwasabha)
