“My mother was only 25 when father died in India. I was 18 months old. She was left with me and my sister. For a widow, life was difficult, I am sure you can imagine. I think after father died she must have understood from experience that life in a conservative society was going to be difficult for us. So after mourning the loss of my father she started working to make sure that we received good education. She did not want us to be stuck in the village looking after animals and eventually getting married. She sent us to school at the district headquarters where there are more people, where the society is open and where there are more opportunities. Today, I am about to complete my graduation and I work for an NGO as an assistant. I clean the office, I take care of the books, keep accounts and go to the bank. And it is an achievement for a girl like me who was raised by a single mother. Deep in my heart, I know I will make her proud one day.” (Asha Bohara, Silgadi 1, Doti) ‪#‎StriveStruggleThrive‬
