“I really don’t do anything, does farming count? You say agriculture and farmers are important but there is no value for farmers in our society. They are the ones who starve. My family is big, I married and had 5 children. If I had not snipped the vein I am sure I would have had 20 children by now. In my days, schools were far-fetched so you worked for your parents in the fields and with the animals and when you came of age, you got married and had children. So I have a little hut now, some rugs, some equipment to brew alcohol and I manage to arrange one meal a day for my family. The children know how to write their names which is progress, I guess. My parents survived on wild roots and grass, and as time changed we got to eat white rice and some daal, but I know it will take another fifty years for proper meals to be served in a farmer’s house - you know, rice and curries and meat and vegetables and fruits and curd and milk.
