(Part 2/2) "During menstruation, the women in the house, we sleep in our own beds, in our own room. I wear everyday clothes but I do not use the same blankets, I have a separate pair. Once the period is over, I wash the clothes and the blankets and keep them aside for the next month. I go to all corners of the house. I am free to broom the house too. There are no such restrictions. There are a few things that I do not do. I do not go to the terrace of the house. I do not go to the kitchen and cook. My mother in law does. I eat on the veranda. But I do the dishes. She gives me water to do the dishes and so I do it. From all the different stories that I have heard, I have it easy during the time I am menstruating. And it is not possible to abandon all that you have been doing for generations. Maybe it is not fair to ask people to abolish practices overnight and by force.
Slowly things are changing. And I have also realized that no one else is going to make the change that I want for myself. Also now the daughters and daughters-in-law are getting the education to change their lives. They know that it is the calling of their will to live the life they want. It is their choice. And if they wish they can do what they aspire for. Just like all men."
