Empathy and Understanding

(Part 1/2) "It was a love marriage. We went to the same school. We were all friends. We were not shy with each other. He was a simple man. He was never into drugs or cigarettes. He had a difficult childhood as he did not have a mother growing up. So I always had love in my heart for him. I also thought that since he had seen enough life, he will be kind towards me. You see, those who have suffered have empathy and understand the pain of others easily. I was very happy about getting married to him. I felt my wish was fulfilled. He loved me very much. Soon I was pregnant with our son. We both knew that we needed to do something. We knew that life was difficult in the village. We were worried about our son's future. After he was born we wanted to be able to provide for him fully, without compromising on his well being and education. We wanted to send him to a proper school and ensure he had a good life growing up. At night, we would stay up late and talk about it. My husband thought that if he went to work outside of Nepal then he would make enough money to come back and start a better life. For the sake of our son, I agreed. When I was 8 months pregnant with our son, his visa arrived. Although he would have wanted to stay for our son’s birth he had to leave. For villagers like us, there is not much in our hands and our will does not matter much. So he left. Separating from him was very difficult but the hope for a better future made me strong."
