“I am a watchmaker. I can make all kinds of watches, mostly the old ones with the hour and the minute hands. I started repairing watches since I was thirteen. There were only three of us in the area. But I do not know where the others left. I think all those digital watches killed our occupation. And when all these modern phones started to sell, no one is wearing any watches anymore. I used to get 10 watches to repair in a day and today I hardly get 10 a month. So I started to mend other electronics like rice cookers and mixers. You have to live. You have to eat. But repairing watches is my passion. Somedays, I take out my tools, dismantle some old watches I have and put the parts back together again. I will not be able to make anyone understand the peace I get in doing so.” (Lakpa Chering Sherpa, Fungling 4, Taplejung)
