“Yes. The rebels shot him during the emergency period. They say that a bunch of guerillas appeared from no where and started shouting, “Who’s Surje?”. Another trekking guide had asked my brother to run away but he had told him, “Either I’ll die or I’ll kill”. He went in front of his group and told the guerrillas that he was Surje. Then they shot him. We don’t know why they killed him. Whatever the reason he stood up and didn’t run. He’s my hero.”
