“All my life, I worked for my master. Looking after his house, animals and family and working in his fields. For our labor we would receive some ration. My father worked for his father. And my grandfather worked for his grandfather. We were generations of Haliyas. I didn’t see much out of the village and I didn’t go to school. All I know is working for my master. After the government made it illegal, women of my age don’t have much to do than to sit around and idle. I don’t know if it is happiness or sadness that fills our heart. I just hope that in the afterlife we will have easier lives and we can live as equals.” (Malam, Dadeldhura)
